At Lighthouse Counseling Center, clients will be afforded the best possible treatment to help them cope with whatever struggles they might be having related to substance use issues, and the many difficulties that occur throughout recovery. We are also very experienced facilitating group therapy, and would encourage people to contact us with any interests they might have in group participation. Psychotherapeutic and educational groups can be just as effective as individual therapy, and sometimes moreso in the right situation. When appropriate, it's also a more affordable way to benefit from therapeutic interaction. It is in interacting with others, this human connection, that we can learn to trust, safely practice new ways of thinking and acting, and explore who we want to become.
As mentioned before, exploring the process of how we perceive, feel, and behave is a valuable tool for a deeper understanding of oneself. This can be a relief, and often feels as though enough has been accomplished to move forward to face the world. However, without a plan for the individual to attain their goals and vision for the future, that feeling of relief can quickly be lost in the busy reality of life. Reciprocally, if the work is too goal oriented, there isn't enough personal gain, and the person hasn't been able to build up the momentum to follow a plan they're not emotionally invested in. So this work is just as necessary as the emotional, in that it provides a structure developed by the client with the therapist's help, and a tangible instrument to measure the changes happening along the way. Goals are often small in the beginning, and can become more challenging / rewarding as one progresses. All aspects of goal planning can be revisited, discussed, re-evaluated, and altered to meet the client's needs during processing, but having a plan in place is imperative and shows real accomplishments.
Lighthouse Counseling Center is extremely motivated to bring events and groups to our community in an attempt to raise awareness and educate people about the risks of misusing alcohol and other substances, but also to keep our families connected and able to have the conversations we need to. It's difficult to talk to our children sometimes when high emotion and concern for their safety drives our words. Lighthouse hopes to offer parent, young person, and family groups to help facilitate the discussions needed within our community that will lead to wider community health. In practice, as families, we hope to help engage in the belief that it's not so important what we say, as how we say it and how we listen and respond to each other.
Being involved or supportive of Lighthouse Counseling Center isn't just the burden of it's employees. We ask for emails or outreach of community support to help find ways to gently remove these blinders and join together. Not just as townspeople worried about their kids, but across generations as well. It is this support from the community that can begin to create an environment of prevention, which is worth the investment in our local youth before substances become an issue for them.
Also, Lighthouse Counseling Center has opportunities for adventure-based therapy in the area, and will plan trips based upon interest and availability. There are a wide array of options, so we always love to hear ideas from our clients and the community about the types of things they would be interested in. We will provide more information through our news posts and emails.
