Lighthouse Counseling Center, PLLC is a private substance use related therapy practice serving the residents of CT. We provide the latest in evidence-based substance abuse treatment models, psychotherapy, assessment, as well as a deep understanding of 12 -Step recovery approaches to help guide our clients through difficult times when they might benefit from alcohol and other drug education, are in the grip of active substance use, or throughout their recovery. Native to the Northwest corner of Connecticut, we understand the different issues that can arise from dependency upon substances or having a loved one that is affected by it. Now, we want to help our community bring this feeling of caring and support to those in need. It is this support and guidance that Lighthouse intends to offer its clients and the community.
Lighthouse Counseling Center strives to help bring peace, success and self acceptance into the lives of our clients. We serve people concerned they might be overusing substances or want information regarding substance use disorders, people in all phases of recovery from substance use, and of course, those that suffer from substance use and substance use related to co-occurring disorders. Our therapist has worked with adolescents, young and mature adults, and understands the challenges faced during different stages of life. We work with all clients to help them discover their strengths and vulnerabilities, and then develop a plan that suits their individual needs and goals.
We also seek to establish strong community support, through our family and education systems, to explore better ways to guide our youth and prepare them for the difficult decisions they will be making as they journey into adulthood. We are a part of this community and realize that sometimes, when something hits close to home, there can be defense mechanisms that force us to distance ourselves from the situation. A "not my kid" or "I can't believe this is happening in this area" attitude is something we can all recognize as been held for far too long; it's this (understandable) attempt to shield ourselves that isolates us from one another. However, most of us have been afflicted, or affected by some form of substance use or mental health related issue. Whether it's ourselves or a loved one, it's painful and society has cast a shadow of shame upon it. This is what needs to be shattered for the sake of our young people and our community. Understanding and communication can be uncomfortable and even frustrating at times, but we would propose that our courage to help others and be empathetic should begin where it's often least comfortable: right here at home.
